TDOT allows work to resume on Henley Bridge

Posted: Updated:

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Tennessee Department of Transportation allowed Henley Bridge contractor Britton Bridge LLC and its related companies to resume work on all nine state projects on Thursday.

Safety reviews were conducted by TDOT Construction personnel, regional safety coordinators, engineering consultants, and representatives from Britton Bridge, LLC and Mountain State Contractors.

The state says most of the findings were limited to conditions on the construction sites since work was suspended before the safety reviews.

All findings have either been corrected or will be corrected within the next 24 hours.

Over the coming weeks, regional construction personnel and safety coordinators will make regular visits to each of the projects to monitor safety conditions.

All construction by Britton Bridge was suspended May 25 a day after a construction worker was killed at the Henley Bridge site.

Another worker was also killed at the Henley Bridge site in January.

The projects for Britton Bridge also include the Union County bridge.

TDOT is still determining whether Britton Bridge and Mountain States will be allowed to bid on future construction projects.
