CLINTON (WATE) - Former Clinton Police Officer Randall Chisum was indicted and arrested Thursday for the aggravated statutory rape of a teen girl.

The mother of a 17-year-old girl came to the Clinton Police Department on May 9 saying her daughter had been communicating by phone and/or computer with Chisum, 29, of Marynardville.

Chief Rick Scarbrough and Lt. Vaughn Becker met with Chisum later that day, and Chisum resigned from the department.

The police department's investigation led officials to believe Chisum might have had sexual relations with the teen on May 8.

The alleged victim was interviewed by a police detective and taken to East Tennessee Children's Hospital later that night.

Police searched Chisum's vehicle on May 10 and photographed markings on his body. The vehicle was then taken to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation crime lab for analysis.

That's when the TBI, at the request of District Attorney General David Clark, took over the investigation.

An Anderson County grand jury indicted Chisum, and the TBI served him with the indictment on Thursday and took him into custody.

Chisum was booked into the Anderson County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
