EAST RIDGE (AP) - A fortune teller has settled a federal lawsuit with the city of East Ridge after officials shut down her business.
Candice Wohlfeil told the Chattanooga Times Free Press that she first went to a city council meeting with documents showing that ordinances against fortune telling in other cities had been struck down in court.
The council agreed to look into it. After six weeks with no action Wohlfeil called the American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee.
They filed a complaint last October claiming the city was violating Wohlfeil's free speech rights.
The council repealed the ordinance in January, and on Friday they settled the suit.
ACLU attorney Tricia Herzfeld said the city had to pay legal fees but did not disclose the amount.
