Swedish company chooses Crossville for U.S. headquarters

CROSSVILLE (WATE) - A Swedish company announced Friday that it has picked Crossville in Cumberland County for its U.S. headquarters.

Bekzon is a maker of air purifying equipment. The business sent a letter of intent to city and county leaders outlining their plans for a major investment.

The company will start by moving 82 workers to the Cumberland Business Incubator. Workers there will train while a $5 million, 44,000 square foot facility is built at the Interchange Industrial Park.

By next year, Bekzon could have 120 people on the payroll with hopes of hiring 500 additional workers over the next 4 to 5 years.

Tax breaks and land grants in the industrial park helped attract Bekzon.

Crossville Mayor J.H. Graham called the company a "godsend."

"Just like every other small community in Tennessee, Crossville is looking for good news and this is the kind of good news we need," said Mayor Graham on Friday while talking with 6 News.

The mayor added that cooperation between the city and county, as well as business leaders and TVA was crucial in the deal.

Plans are now in the works for a job fair within the next few weeks. Bekzon's first office could be open by September 1st.
