KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A man and woman were arrested and charged Thursday after a purse snatching and chase in Knoxville. Police say they're also suspects in another purse snatching that included the use of a Taser.

A woman walking to her car was robbed of her purse just after noon Thursday in the parking lot of a business in the 5800 block of N. Broadway.

A few minutes later, police learned the suspects were trying to use the woman's credit card at a business on Washington Pike.

An officer saw the suspects, David Tommy Smith, 28, of Sevierville, and Jamie Sharee Cheeks, 28, of Maynardville, traveling in a 1985 Olds Cutlass Supreme near Mall Road and Washington Pike.

The officer tried to do a traffic stop, but the suspects fled into the Alice Bell community. During the three-minute chase, police say the suspects tossed the victim's credit cards and ID cards from their car.

Smith and Cheek crashed into a tree as they tried to turn onto Alice Bell Road from Valley View Drive. Police caught the pair as they ran.

Smith is charged with resisting arrest, robbery, evading arrest and driving on a suspended license.

Cheeks is charged with robbery, and she was wanted on outstanding warrants including an attempted theft in July and violation of probation.

Police say the pair is believed to have robbed a 61-year-old woman Wednesday in the parking lot of a business in the 4400 block of Chapman Highway. The male suspect used a Taser on the victim while the female suspect grabbed her purse from her vehicle.
