Inmate has seizure at Sevier County Jail

SEVIERVILLE (WATE) - A Sevier County inmate suffered a seizure Wednesday night while he was in jail.

Robert Mason, 31, of Gatlinburg, became ill and was taken to a local hospital, according to Sevier County Jail Capt. Kent Hatcher.

Mason was serving for a second time on a charge of driving on a revoked license.

Two other Sevier County jail inmates, Derek Pitts and Billy Foster, died in February. Autopsy results in those cases pointed to a drug overdose and health problems.

In July, the FBI said it is investigating the alleged assault of another Sevier County inmate, Ronald McDaniel. The sheriff's office is also investigating the claim that McDaniel was beaten by other inmates while jailers watched.
