KINGSTON (WATE) – A woman from the Knoxville area was found dead in Roane County Saturday night.

A passing driver spotted the body of Brooke Nicole Morris, 23, at the intersection of Blair Road and Old Blair Road. The Roane County Sheriff's Office is investigating her death as a homicide.

Morris died of a gunshot wound, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Those who knew Morris describe her as soft-spoken and very pretty.

"I was just shocked; I could not believe someone would do this to such a pretty girl.  She was so young, only 23," said Carol Meredith. Meredith is Brooke's landlady and a friend of the family.

She says the young mom lived alone in Powell and had moved into an apartment complex about nine months ago, right after getting divorced.

"Her little boy lived up the street. She wanted to live there because he was up the street," explained Meredith.

Investigators are chasing down leads to figure out how she ended up in Roane County.

"We're looking at things like who she runs around with, who she's been with, things like that. We're trying to shed a little light on what happened," said Detective Tim Phillips, with the Roane County Sheriff's Office.

"By what we know, we think she was killed here," Phillips said about the crime scene.

Meredith says it's unusual that Brooke Morris would have gone so far away, if she actually did.

"She came home every day, she worked, and I don't think she went very far," said Meredith.

Investigators do have some suspects they're looking at.

"I hope they find who did this because this is a tragedy to her son and family. I know they miss her horribly," said Meredith.

So far no arrests have been made.
