LENOIR CITY (WATE) - The Boys & Girls Club of the Tennessee Valley got an upgrade Tuesday thanks to about a dozen volunteers from Alcoa Inc.
The volunteers planted cherry trees and pansies to improve the look of the club as part of their annual month of service.
But the help didn't stop there. The volunteers also presented the club with a $15,000 check.
The money is going toward Lego Robotics Kits.
"The kids are stoked about the opportunity," said Jason Gillaran, with the Boys & Girls Club. "They like to see the evidence of their hard work, to see things move and to see things roll. So that's been the biggest challenge so far with our kids in participating in that program is just making it move."
The club has developed teams to compete in competitions with their new robot kits.
Gillaran says an engineering fraternity from the University of Tennessee will help them with the process.
