MAYNARDVILLE (WATE) - The Union County Schools Board voted 4-3 in a special meeting Wednesday night to suspend Director of Schools Wayne Goforth without pay.

Marilyn Toppins was named as interim director during the special meeting held at Union County High School.

Goforth did not have any comment.

However, his attorney, Herb Moncier, says they will sue the school board for a violation of the Open Meetings Act.

"Obviously, this has been decided before tonight. Obviously, this was done. We have no notice of any charges. We have no idea why we're here tonight," Moncier said.

Some Union County school bus drivers say they're concerned they won't be paid on Thursday.

School officials say the county is expecting a check from Nashville. That check is for money generated by sales tax.

Officials say if the check doesn't arrive, the bus drivers won't be paid.
