KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A perfect night's sleep may seem too good to be true, but Knoxville's Brothers Bedding says custom-made mattresses are guaranteed to do that.

Owner Marty Bass says each mattress is made by hand.

"We are not necessarily the cheapest in town, but we are the best value," he said.

Bass is not the original owner. In fact, Brothers Bedding has been in the Knoxville area for more than 70 years.

"The company started in 1938 by Mr. Brothers," Bass said. "He ran it until he passed away in the late 60s, then it ran on its own by employees."

Now Bass is carrying on the Brothers tradition, keeping the company in Knoxville and striving to provide a quality product. "If it is too soft or too firm, we can change it to meet their needs," he said.

The company's comfort guarantee is for 60 days, but Bass says when it comes down to it they will work with their customers. "If a year or two from now they have a problem, we still do what is necessary to make them happy."

The firmness of a mattress can be adjusted by the kinds of springs the company uses, the amount of padding added and even the thickness of the foam or quilting on top.

It's not just the firmness of a mattress that can be adjusted. Brothers Bedding also makes special order sizes for non-traditional needs like antique sofas and motor homes.

The company even offers a memory foam-like mattress, and a no-flip mattress.

Bass has preserved so much about this company, but he says one thing stands out as different after all these years in business.

"The procedure's the same, but the type of the bedding that we make now is a lot thicker than it used to be, maybe double the thickness in fact" he explained.

The main store for Brothers Bedding is at 5610 N. Broadway in Fountain City. There's also a West Knoxville location at 220 N. Peters Road.
