KNOXVILLE (WATE) - People living in a North Knoxville neighborhood have asked police to keep an eye on a pain clinic.

Advanced Pain Therapeutics, 900 East Woodland Avenue, is located just across from Physician's Regional Medical Center, formerly known as St. Mary's.

The clinic has several signs outside saying it is accepting new patients.

Police spokesman Darrell DeBusk says the department received some citizen complaints regarding illegal activity around the area, but he wouldn't say exactly what the activity was.

6 News spotted police cruisers Thursday afternoon around the parking lot next to the clinic for about an hour.

The clinic  is registered as Advanced Pain Therapeutics, PC  and is still listed as being owned and managed by Allen R. Foster.

The clinic has been in its north Knoxville location for about three years..

Latest records 6 News found show that Foster lost his medical license in July and was sentenced to one year in  federal prison for health care fraud.

State board of medical examiner records that show he got in trouble in December for over-prescribing controlled substances.

A clinic employee says it's under new ownership.

Nobody at the clinic would talk on camera, but the employee says the clinic operates and practices according to state health regulations.

The employee also says the clinic will only accept Tennessee residents, nobody from out-of-state.

Police say they will continue to look into complaints.
