KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A fund created to honor a Knoxville teen who died after a drug overdose gave a $5,000 grant Monday to a substance abuse treatment program.

The "Knoxville Police Department Heroes' Gift" honors the dedication shown by police leadership in fighting drug trafficking to young people.

It goes to Helen Ross McNabb's Gateway Center Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment Program.

"Knoxville Police Department Chief David Rausch and his whole team share our commitment to ending the epidemic of drug addiction and overdose," said Henry's Fund Executive Director Betsy Allison Tant, MSW.

Henry Louis Granju died on May 31, 2010 of a brain injury caused by an overdose. Henry's Fund was established later that year to help pay the costs of treatment for other young people who also suffer from addiction.

Henry's entire family, including his four younger siblings and many cousins, went to police headquarters Monday morning delivering letters, cards and drawings that thanked officers for their work battling drug trafficking.

The gift was also a surprise for Chief Rausch.

Henry's Fund is a Donor Advised Nonprofit Fund of the East Tennessee Foundation. Its mission is to provide financial assistance to help with addiction treatment care for those between ages of 12 and 20.
