LENOIR CITY (WATE) - It was a historic night for those at the Lenoir City parade. Thursday night was the first time in more than 30 years that the city held the parade at night. Former UT football coach Johnny Majors was also there as the head marshall.

The annual Christmas on Broadway parade kicked off the holiday season.

"It's just a great community event where people come out with their kids and their families. It's a very family oriented type of event and with it being at night and the cool temperature it has that Christmas feel about it," said Steve Harrelson, the Lenoir City Parks and Recreation Director.

It all started with legendary former UT football coach, Johnny Majors as the head marshall.

"I'm just waving at the people and I've had a tremendous amount of people being very thoughtful to me and kind to me through the years. I'm very fortunate. I like a parade so here I am riding in it who knows what I am going to like best," said Majors.

People who came to watch said there is always something to look forward to every year like the lights, decorations and crazy floats.

There were performances and more than one hundred floats in the parade. They came down Broadway one by one as thousands of people watched the biggest parade Lenoir City has ever seen.

Some of the local businesses even decorated their store fronts in honor of the parade. People on the floats also threw candy to the kids as they wished everyone a Merry Christmas. The parade was the perfect kick off to the holiday season.
