MARYVILLE (WATE) - Two Carpenters Middle School students received minor injuries Thursday morning when they struck by a car as they walked to a school bus.

The boys, ages 12 and 14, were crossing Miser Station Road to get to a waiting school bus at Benson Lane when they were hit at 7:35 a.m.

James Ralph Bowerman, 78, of S. Farnum Street in Friendsville, was going north on Miser Station Road when he hit the pair.

Bowerman told Blount County sheriff's officers he didn't see the boys, but he saw the bus' flashing yellow lights.

By the time he saw the red lights flashing, Bowerman said he didn't have time to stop. He was cited with failure to stop for a school bus.

The boys were taken to Blount Memorial Hospital for treatment.
