ERIN (WKRN) - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrested a Houston County woman over the weekend for attempting to hire a hitman to kill her husband of 12 years.

According to the TBI, Imajean Lowery, 70, of Erin, met with an undercover agent and offered him $5,000 to murder her spouse and provided the agent with a picture of him.

She was arrested and charged with one count of solicitation to commit first degree murder.

"She was attempting to put feelers into the community to hire a hitman to kill her husband," TBI spokesperson Kristin Helm told WKRN-TV.

Helm said the elderly woman made the arrangements with a TBI agent on her front porch.

Lowery told the agent she was the beneficiary of her husband's life insurance policy and was desperate for the money.

"I think she had such a clear motivating factor of wanting that money, being desperate [for the] money. [The agent] even gave her the opportunity to call it off to not do it and she insisted she wanted to have this done," Helm said.

Neighbors said the woman was facing financial difficulties since her grandson was arrested for several arsons in the county.

Lowery was booked into the Houston County jail on a $200,000 bond.
