KNOXVILLE (WATE) - It takes a great deal of coordination to make sure the Extreme Makeover build site in West Knoxville stays fully staffed with skilled workers.

Work to demolish and rebuild Daniel and Mandy Watson's home on Robinson Road has to go on 24/7.

Dawn Steimer, site supervisor for the first overnight shift at the build, has a role that's integral to keeping enough manpower going.

"That means I am supervising the floating skilled labor here which is the 'just- in-case' pool. In case someone is sick or doesn't show up, we have to have skilled labor to stay on schedule," Steimer explained.

From Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, around 10 skilled labor volunteers were on standby, waiting to relieve a crew member if they were needed.

The chance of being down even one skilled worker is not an option for such a super fast build.

"It's a problem because our schedule is on 15-minute increments," Steimer explained. "That means that everything has to work like clock work. Every person that is scheduled is crucial to the project being on time."

"It's my first time being a part of something this big and it's electric. It's amazing. I am just so grateful to be here, so grateful that all of these people have given up so much time and so much heart to do this," she added.

The skilled volunteers are working 12-hour days, often from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
