KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Since "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" kicked off in Knoxville, volunteers by the bus load have been pouring onto the work site.

Some have a world of knowledge about home construction.

Others simply want to do what they can to help build a new home for Daniel and Mandy Watson and their three adopted children.

Groups of University of Tennessee students pitched in overnight to be part of the experience at the site on Robinson Road.

"Any of the students helping out now, if we do it in the morning we have to go to class afterward. But I think we have enough energy to power through still," said junior Laura Ketola.

One source of their energy is the thrill of taking part in such a big project and learning something new to help a deserving family.

"We thought this was a great opportunity to help out a family here that we don't know, but we really wanted to help out," Kelsey Hackett said.

"I think the lucky thing about being on the night shift is, there is less people so we started off with the shoveling and the gravel and stuff like that. I know we got to blowtorch some cement so that was exciting for us," Ketola said.

"It's a lot different than what you see on TV," Hackett added.

The students' shift began at 2:00 a.m. and wrapped up around 8:00 a.m. None of them had time to take a nap. It was off to class.
