GATLINBURG – Great Smoky Mountains National Park plans to close Wears Gap Road in Sevier County from sunrise Thursday, January 19 through sunset Friday, January 20 for a tree trimming project.

The road is one of the park's secondary entrances. It provides access from US 321 in Wears Valley to Little River Road about nine miles west of Gatlinburg.

The trimming project will improve sight distance around the narrow curves and help visibility of road signs by removing hazardous limbs and trees.

The trimming will make the road not seem as narrow and help prevent drivers from going over the center line.

The project will be rescheduled for Monday, January 23 if the weather is a factor during the original plans.

The park's website has temporary road closures posted.
