KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Extreme Makeover: Home Edition host Ty Pennington was talking shop as soon as he walked onto the build site in Knoxville Monday afternoon.

But Pennington still found time between takes of the show's recording to talk to those who've been waiting since day one to catch a glimpse of him.

"Oh I tell you what, because of the new project I'm working on in New York, and because of the build in Texas, a lot of people don't realize I'm doing so many things at once," he said.

"But I absolutely wanted to be a part of this. This is our family. This is what we do. So I'm just so glad I could finally be here. I'm so excited," he added.

His excitement showed on the set and off as he clowned with Jenny McCarthy, showing her the proper way to use a megaphone.

Pennington says Knoxville, which is where he started on the show "Trading Spaces," is like a second home to him and he just couldn't miss this last build.

Extreme Makeover has ended its series run, but the Knoxville episode will air as a Thanksgiving special during the 2012-2013 season on ABC.

"The important part is I'm here, and I can be a part of this because it really is going to be phenomenal. And the story of these guys and what they do for so many families and so many single moms trying to get their life together. This is huge," Pennington said.
