KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Wednesday was the day everyone was waiting for; the final reveal of the Watson family's new Extreme Makeover home. Spectators showed up early to be bused over to the build site. Some were local and others from out of state like Georgia.
"Yes we did to see Ty Pennington. Move that bus, Ty," said Jackie Swaggerty, a spectator who drove from Georgia just to see the reveal.
People came to the site for many different reasons.
"I wanted to be here when the family gets home to see their new house as well as being a volunteer. It's important to see how everything plays out at the end," explained Tonya Dawn.
Most just wanted to be a part of the made for TV madness.
"Just to see the whole production and what goes on behind the scenes. When we watch the program, it seems to zip right along, but it really doesn't. It's just like a movie production," said Carolyn Albert, a spectator.
There were lots of cameras and crews on site preparing for the big moment of the Watson family's arrival and everyone yelling "move that bus" welcoming the family home for the first time.
"It's the best part. The Watson family is finally inside their brand new home that so many wonderful volunteers helped make," explained Tracy Hutson, a designer for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
The Watsons looked extremely pleased with their new home, as did the spectators and those who worked countless hours leading up to and even on the day of the big reveal.
"I think it is a great representation of what this community and region can pull together and do something amazing," said Christi Branscom, president of Grace Construction.
We say welcome home to the Watson family and goodbye to the Extreme Makeover crew who made this transformation possible.
