KNOXVILLE (WATE) - When Daniel and Mandy Watson spoke to the media Thursday afternoon about receiving their new home from Extreme Makeover, they said they were overwhelmed by the amount of community support to help them.

The couple spoke at a press conference outside their home on Robinson Road in West Knoxville.

Extreme Makeover revealed the house and other structures on the property to the Watsons on Wednesday morning.

"A huge burden has been lifted and we've been strengthened, restored and renewed as a family," Mandy said.

The couple says it's hard to find words to express their gratitude to thousands of volunteers in the community and beyond that came together to build their dream home.

More importantly for them, the volunteers helped them continue serving single moms through their non-profit, The Restoration House of East Tennessee.

"I think it's a real testament to humanity," Daniel said. "I think it's a real testament to Knoxville as a community."

He said when the Extreme Makeover bus moved to reveal their home, he was most moved by the thousands of people supporting his family and their mission.

"There is really no family that's deserving of this," Daniel said. "There's a thousand families like ours in this community. We just happened to be the ones that received the gift. That's what makes it so special because it really is a gift of grace."

Mandy Watson said, "We're just trying to breathe and soak up every moment. So I think at some point it will hit me, everything that has occurred."

She says the house reflects the family.

Although they can't give details about what's inside, Mandy says there are several reminders of what has been done for the Watsons.

Now they want to continue giving back. "We can't wait to invite more children into our home, can't wait to invite more families and see what's next," Mandy said.

The Watson's new home was built in a week by crews and volunteers working day and night despite rain, storms, lightning, hail, bitter cold and snow.
