MADISONVILLE (WATE) - Some Monroe County jailers resigned Friday after the sheriff's office reviewed allegations that an inmate was treated improperly.

The sheriff's office has not released the names of the inmate or the employees who resigned.

The incident occurred the night of January 17. The jail staff reported it to the sheriff's office the next day.

Sheriff Bill Bivens and the jail staff investigated what happened and met with the employees who turned in their resignations, according to a press release.

The sheriff's office has not released any other details about the incident.

FBI officials say they're aware of the allegations, and they're assessing the information.
