Pigeon Forge leaders unhappy about sign proposal

PIGEON FORGE (WATE) - City leaders in Pigeon Forge are unhappy about a sign proposal for the former Belle Island Village project.

The project is now called "The Island at Pigeon Forge" and developers want to increase the sign for the project from 100 to 250 sq. ft., which would require a change in ordinance. The proposal would only apply to "The Island at Pigeon Forge", but not other businesses.

"I think at Dollywood, The Red Roof Mall, I think they all deserve this signage because it's not anything to draw people into town," said Pigeon Forge City Commissioner Randal Robinson. "It's something to draw people into your lot above someone else's lot after they've made the destination. I think everyone ought to be on a level scale."

Before the proposal can be approved, it has to jump through several other administrative hoops.
