Auditors question Tellico Plains police chief spending

TELLICO PLAINS (WATE) - The former Tellico Plains Police Chief spent thousands of dollars without keeping records of how the money was spent, according to a state audit.

Police Chief Bill Isbell received $3800 in cash from police fundraisers, according to auditors.

Isbell told them the money was spent for Police Department purposes, but he was not able to provide documentation.

City records also showed other fundraising events, which Isbell said did not turn a profit.

Auditors also questioned $1700, which were donated for an after-prom party. Isbell said he also could not account for that money.
