CLINTON (WATE) - The Anderson County Sheriff's Office charged a man and his girlfriend Wednesday for murdering the man's elderly uncle in Claxton.

The victim, Sammie J. Adams, 79, of Patt Lane, was reported missing on January 22. His body was later found hidden under a staircase in his apartment.

Adams' nephew, Norman Lee Follis, Jr., 48, is charged with first degree murder and felony theft.

Follis' girlfriend, Tammy Sue Chapman, 43, is charged with accessory after the fact and felony theft.

6 News interviewed Adams, the murder victim, in February 2011. At that time, Adams said he had been the victim of a violent stun gun attack and robbery.

A man named Jonathan Bowling was arrested in that case. Adams said he thought he was targeted because he stored cash in his home.

Follis and Chapman lived together on the same property as Adams.

Chapman is also charged in an unrelated case with aggravated burglary for allegedly breaking into the home of Follis' father and step-mother.

More charges may be filed on both suspects as the investigation continues, according to the sheriff's office.

Follis and Chapman are being held in the Anderson County Jail. Bond will be set at their arraignments.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is helping with the Adams' death case. The sheriff's office says no other details can be released.
