Strawberry Plains man sought for attempted metal theft sales

STRAWBERRY PLAINS (WATE) - The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has identified a man wanted for trying to sell stolen metal Wednesday afternoon.

Officers responded to an address on Dandridge Pike where a man said he saw a truck loading stolen metal.

The man and his uncle said they tried to keep suspects from leaving. The uncle said he shot toward the truck and hit the driver's door.

Officers eventually found the truck and the suspect, Jonathan Chadwell, 32, of Strawberry Plains, at Mayberry Metals in Knox County. However, he fled on foot into the woods behind the facility and escaped.

Jefferson County investigators identified Chadwell by using the truck's vehicle identification number.

Sheriff Bud McCoig says Chadwell may have been involved in several more metal thefts.
