NEW TAZEWELL (WATE) - A popular Claiborne County restaurant was gutted by fire early Sunday morning.
Heavy's BBQ on N. Broad Street in New Tazewell suffered extensive damage in the blaze, which started around 2:00 a.m.
Firefighters said they were able to save part of the kitchen, though it still received substantial smoke damage. The rest of the building was destroyed.
Fire officials are continuing to investigate the cause, though they suspect old wiring may be to blame.
Officials say the owners of the restaurant were out of town at the time of the fire, but have been notified about it.
Just last year, Heavy's BBQ was voted the best barbeque in all of East Tennessee by The Tennessee Magazine, which is published by the Tennessee Electric Cooperative Association.
