ATHENS (WATE) - Two of four suspects accused of an armed robbery of a man Sunday at a McMinn County rest stop were captured, despite changing vehicles several times.
Deputies responded to the Interstate 75 southbound rest area around 10:00 a.m. Ion Poppa, 58, of Philadelphia, Tennessee, said he was assaulted by four men who took his cash and a gold necklace. The suspects left in a gray Lincoln Town Car.
Athens police later found the abandoned car on Railroad Avenue.
Officers from both departments worked together and found convenience store video showing two of the suspects getting into a Ford Taurus.
The officers found the Taurus, whose driver said she dropped them off at Athens Lodge, off Highway 305.
From there, the suspects hitched another ride, going northbound on I-75. Officers got information about the third vehicle and dispatchers sent the information to law enforcement in the Knoxville area.
Within minutes, Lenoir City authorities stopped the vehicle. The suspects, Danny Marcum, 41, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and David Roseberry, 49 of Villa Hills, Kentucky, tried to run, but officers caught them.
The McMinn County Sheriff's Office says the other two suspects have not yet been identified, and they remain at large.
