ATHENS (WATE) - Mayfield Dairy President Scottie Mayfield said Friday he will run against Congressman Chuck Fleischmann in the August race for the 3rd District.
Mayfield, a 61, of Athens, is the latest Republican to enter the already crowded field of candidates.
He was recently included in the 3rd District after state lawmakers approved a shift in redistricting lines that includes McMinn County.
Mayfield says he wants to do something to serve his country.
The other GOP challengers include: Weston Wamp, Ron Bhalla and Dr. Jean Howard-Hill.
Congressman Fleischmann was a guest on the 6 News political show Tennessee This Week on January 15, discussing the redistricting changes for the 3rd District.
Mayfield is part of the fourth generation to run Mayfield Dairy, which employs nearly 2,000 people in nine states.
