KNOXVILLE (WATE) - What started as a prowler call in North Knoxville Tuesday morning turned out to be a shooting.
Police responded to a call about a prowler at 5:00 a.m. on Huron Street. That's when a witness flagged them down and told them about a shooting in the 800 block of Atlantic Avenue.
Police say the prowler was actually the witness to the shooting, who was trying to get a neighbor to call 911.
The victim, Joshua Monholland, 26, was taken to UT Medical Center.
According to the preliminary
investigation, police say the suspects were demanding to know "where the money was at"
while beating Monholland.
Once the suspects got Monholland's wallet, they shot him in the thigh and fled the residence.
Police say it appears
the suspects knew Monholland.
The suspects are described as
white males appearing to be in their 20s who wore black clothing and black ski masks.
It's not known if the suspects fled on foot or in a vehicle.
