KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A group of Knoxville combat veterans diagnosed with post traumatic stress have received some promising news from the Veterans Administration.

For the last nine months a group of 24 Vietnam veterans, all diagnosed with PTSD, have been meeting with a psychologist and getting help with their issues at the VA outpatient clinic in Knoxville.

On Thursday, 6 News reported that the veterans were concerned their counseling sessions were either numbered or their group might even be broken up. The VA had informed the vets to expect changes with their group sessions after the end of March.

The men said they didn't want to be split up and no one from the VA was listening.

6 News has learned that on Monday, the chief of mental health from the Mountain Home VA Medical Center will meet with the Knoxville group at the outpatient clinic.

Veteran Freddie Owens says he hopes "to hear a proposal that's going to accelerate the treatment and recovery of all veterans in the area."

The Veterans Administration says at their meeting, the mental health chief and others expect to focus on a therapeutic plan that's best for the vets.
