KNOXVILLE (WATE) - With the identification of the remains of Pamela Knight, of Knoxville, her case changed from a missing person to a homicide investigation.

No one has been charged with her murder, but Knight's sons say they know who killed their mother. Her remains were found in January off Eblen Road in Loudon County.

On Thursday, Knight's family members were notified that the remains were hers.

"Living life young without a mother in your life, I think about her 24/7," said Phillip Clabough, 19. He and his two younger brothers have been growing up without their mother. She went missing in October 2005.

Knight's youngest son is Michael, and his birthday will always be the anniversary of his mom's disappearance.

On Friday, 6 News stopped by the Fountain City home where the family used to live when the 35-year-old mother disappeared.

The oldest sons say over the years, they would drive by the house to remember their mother, all the while hoping she would show up one day.

After more than seven years, they just want justice. They believe their mother's husband, who's also their stepfather, Paul Knight, is responsible.

"Because he's the one who left with her that morning. He came back and took us to school, dropped us off and we never seen him again," her son said.

Paul Knight has been treated as a suspect in the past, but since there was no body he was never charged.

The Knox County District Attorney General's Office says it's too early to talk about charges, but they did say they're planning to talk to Loudon County sheriff's deputies Friday night.

"Maybe get him to talk, I hope he does so we can actually get to the bottom of what happened to her that day," Brandon Clabough said.

Paul Knight is in a Louisiana prison on unrelated charges. He's set to be released in 2022.

The teenagers say they never want their stepfather to go free. "Why would you take a mother away from three kids who need her the most?" Brandon said.

Pamela Knight's sons say they didn't know about their stepfather's long criminal history when they were living together and he didn't seem dangerous in any way at that time. Knight was convicted of several offenses, including gun charges.

The Loudon County Sheriff's Office has scheduled a news conference about the case on Monday morning.
