RUTLEDGE (WATE) - Grainger County officials are wrapping up their investigation after two people plunge their vehicle into a river.

Authorities say Misty Hatfield, 33, and Dustin Brown, 30, were under the influence of methamphetamine when they drove their SUV into the Holston River last week.

Investigators say the two thought they were en route home to Union County, but in their stupor, they ended up in Grainger County. They drove through a corn field and plunged their SUV into the water.

After escaping the submerged vehicle, Hatfield and Brown told investigators there were two people still inside, but officials say no other bodies were found.

Both Hatfield and Brown face several charges including leaving the scene of a crash and public intoxication.
