MADISONVILLE (WATE) - Madisonville business Beck's Florist went up in flames Monday night, destroying hundreds of orders.
The flower shop at 4248 Highway 411 caught fire about an hour after workers left for the evening.
"I couldn't believe it," said owner Wendell Beck. "I couldn't believe it."
The timing couldn't be worse as Tuesday is one of the busiest days of the year: Valentine's Day. "We've been working, even last week, getting ready for today," Beck said.
He says everything was destroyed in the fire. "Some of them had done paid for them, and that's the bad part," he added.
Firefighters said the back part of the building was destroyed in the blaze, but they were able to stop the flames from spreading further.
Beck's cat died in the blaze.
"(The hard part is) knowing my cat's in there dead, too," said Beck. "That hurts, too. She was like one of our kids. I got to see she's buried proper, and I want to bury her by my wife."
No one was in the building at the time. It was a house that had been turned into a florist. Beck was in business at this location for 25 years. He's been selling flowers in the area for 35 years.
The cause has been ruled as accidental.
