LAFOLLETTE (WATE) - People gathered at the old West LaFollette School in Campbell County Tuesday night to pray for change in their community.

A large group gathered. Folks from various churches around the area attended. This prayer group has been meeting since October.

The sound of voices praying filled the cafeteria with hopes their prayers can help solve the problems in their community.

"Just praying for the needs of our county because we love our county and we are concerned about what happens here. That's why we gather," explained Duane Mills, a pastor at First Baptist Church of LaFollete.

One of the main things prayed about is drugs.

"The addiction in our county. We have the second highest meth rate and yet our pill addiction rate is even higher than the meth rate. So we're praying for those addicted to pain pills, addicted to meth, addicted to other drugs," Pastor Mills said.

Mills helps to facilitate, but lets people voice their concerns. This is a way for churches to get involved in the issues of the county.

"We just raise issues. Pray for them. Then we go home. Whoever shows up, participates. Then we start over and do it the next time," he said.

Many believe it's very positive for the area. "I love it. I think it's great. I think it is working. I really believe it is working in our county," said Terry Wells, of the Shield of Faith Community Church.

Those involved hope it continues.

"Sometimes the bad things bring us together for good things, and we're hoping for a good ending on this behalf," said Demus Spruce, a pastor from Stanfield Church of God.

The meetings are always held on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. and anyone is welcome to attend.
