Northwest Knoxville baby drowns in bathtub, police investigating

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Police are investigating the bathtub drowning death Tuesday of a 10-month-old boy at his Northwest Knoxville home.

Javin Collins was pronounced dead at East Tennessee Children's Hospital.

Officers responded to a call about the incident at 3:17 p.m. at 6508 Rockbridge Lane. The child's mother, Jennifer Tomko, 25 was home at the time.

Police say the preliminary investigation found the baby was left unattended in the bathtub. He was under water and unresponsive when his mother returned.

Neighbors called 911 and tried to perform CPR on the baby until emergency responders arrived.

The state Department of Children Services is also investigating. Javin's three-year-old brother has been temporarily removed from the home and placed in the custody of relatives.
