Sports talk radio reacts to news that Summitt is stepping down
KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Pat Summitt's decision to step down made for big talk this afternoon, especially in the world of sports talk radio.
The news didn't come as a shock to the sports world.
"I think the fans have been waiting on this. They've been waiting on word on what exactly what would happen and anybody who's really been following the story didn't know for sure, but knew there was a good chance Pat Summitt wouldn't be the head coach," said Josh Ward of The Sports Animal.
After 38 years as head coach, Summitt turns over the reins to long-time assistant Holly Warlick, who's a good fit, according to Ward.
"For Holly Warlick taking over as head coach, you hear that news, and it makes sense," said Ward.
For the past season, the question lingering on the mind of many fans was what would happen to Summitt after she stepped down. Wednesday, they got their answer.
"But they know where the program will be moving forward. That's been a question for the last 7 or 8 months," said Ward.
