Rockwood public works director resigns while on administrative leave

Posted: Updated:

ROCKWOOD (WATE) - Rockwood Public Works Director Tom Pierce submitted his resignation on April 20 before a city council meeting. He was on his second month of administrative leave.

Pierce was put on administrative leave in February over his purchase of several guns with a city credit card. He said the guns were for protection while rounding up vicious stray dogs.

Since Pierce also served as parks and recreation director, Mayor James Watts says he and city council will now look into separating those positions.

Mayor Watts expects to discuss making an appointment after the start of the new fiscal year on July 1.

Watts says the state Comptroller's Office and the Roane County District Attorney General's Office are still investigating the Pierce case.
