KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A group of special baseball players was given the chance of a lifetime Monday.

The Knoxville Challenger Little League Baseball program held a series of games at Lindsey Nelson Stadium on the University of Tennessee campus.

Kids with special needs played with the entire UT baseball team and coaching staff.

The Challenger League is organized by the Knox Youth Sports organization and funded through community support and contributions. It is free of charge to the players and their families.

The youngsters are given a cap and t-shirt, at the end of the season they are awarded a trophy at an end-of-the-year cookout.

The Challenger League program has recently expanded to include golf in the summer and basketball in the winter.

It was begun in 1997.
