Ex-Morgan County Soil Conservation District worker charged with theft

WARTBURG (WATE) - The former secretary for the Morgan County Soil Conservation District was arrested Wednesday on a theft charge.

Sharlene Justice, 49, was indicted by the Morgan County Grand Jury on May 21.

The state comptroller's office of Division of County Audit found in an audit that more than $44,000 was missing from the district.

Justice is charged with one count of theft over $10,000.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrested Justice.

TBI opened an investigation at the request of the 10th Judicial District Attorney General in December 2011. It followed an audit that revealed discrepancies regarding payments, checks and bank statements.

Justice was booked into the Morgan County Jail on a $6,000 bond.
