KINGSTON (WATE) - Kingston city Councilman Kevin Blaine McClure was arrested Tuesday night on a DUI charge. The sheriff's office said he was passed out and stopped in the middle of a road.
Officers responded to a call about McClure, 44, at Highway 70 and Ladd Wright Road at 11:00 p.m.
His car was stopped with the engine running, the lights on and loud music playing, but McClure was unresponsive at first, according to the report. McClure came to as an officer used his flashlight to knock on the window.
The report says the councilman nearly fell several times after getting out of his car and agreed to a search of the vehicle. It turned up a half-empty bottle of vodka.
McClure performed poorly on a field sobriety test, according to the report, so officers took him into custody and charged him with DUI. A sample of his blood was drawn at the Roane County Detention Center.
The sheriff's office says McClure has a prior conviction for DUI.
6 News was unable to reach McClure for comment. Kingston Mayor Troy Beets says there's nothing council can do to replace McClure.
