NEWPORT (WATE) - Classic cars, cornhole tournaments and a giant moonpie were just a taste of the fun Saturday in Cocke County.
In its first year, the "MoonPie in the Smokies - Mountains, Music and Memories" festival drew quite a crowd.
Cocke County threw the event to honor Earl Mitchell, a native of the Caney Creek area and inventor of the famous pastry.
Local tourism officials said they organized the event to recognize a local icon and highlight southern culture.
"I think it tells you about a simpler time, family, tradition and all the things that make up the south," said Linda Lewanski, Tourism Director for the Cocke County Partnership.
Organizers claim the MoonPie at Saturday's festival is the world's largest.
