Park will not offer daily passes to firefly shows

GATLINBURG (WATE) - Due to East Tennessee's unusual weather patterns this year, the Great Smoky Mountain National Park will no longer offer daily passes to this year's firefly shows.

Park spokesperson Molly Schroer says poor firefly showings last night made the decision an easy one.  She says the Park does not want to disappoint those hoping for a good show with only a few fireflies.

The park was offering 25 passes for each showing for those who had not bought pre-sale tickets.

Those who bought their tickets beforehand are welcome to come see the show, she says.  The park will continue to run trolleys to viewing areas as promised through June 10.

Schroer says do not be surprised if there are only a few fireflies, but to "enjoy a nice, cool evening in the park."

She adds that the park will take data from this year's showing in order to pinpoint better viewing times for next year.
