FRIENDSVILLE (WATE) - Sen. Bob Corker paid a visit to East Tennessee Sunday evening to help out a good cause.
Corker attended a fundraiser for the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont.
The non-profit educates young and old about wildlife and ecology in the Smokies.
Sen. Corker said in this day and age, it's important for people of all ages to connect with nature.
"I think anything that gets people outside, appreciating and understanding the outdoors is a good thing," said Corker.
The former mayor of Chattanooga said he's been busy since he's taken office as a U.S. senator, and has missed the opportunity to come to events like the fundraiser.
