Scott County receives letter of intent to reopen hospital

ONEIDA (WATE) - A new offer is on the table to reopen Scott County's hospital. County commissioners are considering a letter of intent from Pioneer Medical Services.

Under the proposed deal, Pioneer would lease the hospital from the county for 15 years with an option for another 15 years.

Lease payments to the county would be slightly more than the cost billed for emergency services.

Also, the county would pay $3.5 million dollars over 9 years for indigent and emergency care. Commissioners are still waiting for offers from other operators.

St. Mary's of Scott County closed last month after the county's contract with former operator HMA ran out and was not renewed.
