Knoxville holds old-fashioned Fourth of July festival

Updated:

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Fireworks, a Patriotic bike parade and a dramatic presentation by some daring individuals are among the highlights of the city of Knoxville's Festival on the Fourth.

Parking for the day is free at all downtown parking garages, and ADA parking is available at Fort Kid.

World's Fair Park Drive will close at 1:00 p.m.; the Clinch Avenue viaduct will close at 2:00.

Officials ask the public to follow these restrictions: no pets, no alcohol and no tents.

Activities get underway at 2:00 p.m. and wrap up with a fireworks show and performance by the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra at 9:35 p.m.

Regal's Star-Spangled Kids Zone will offer face painting, balloons, inflatable bounce houses and slides.

A safety house, sponsored by the Knoxville Fire Department, gives kids a hands-on opportunity to learn what to do if there's a fire.

The festival will also celebrate the 30th anniversary of the World's Fair. The Carib Sound Steel Band, part of the original band that played during the fair, will perform at 3:30 p.m.

At 6:00 p.m., Freddy Smith, of WDVX, will lead the audience in the popular World's Fair chicken dance.

Around 7:30 p.m., police and sheriff's officers will grab festival goers' attention with a dramatic presentation in the skies near the Sunsphere.
