Oak Ridge federal building closes after discovery of asbestos

Posted:

OAK RIDGE (WATE) - The federal building in Oak Ridge was shut down over the weekend and will remain closed indefinitely after an inspection found asbestos in the building.

About 350 Department of Energy employees and contractors work in the building. U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann also maintains an office there.

A meeting will be held Monday to work out details of where employees will work while work is underway to remove the asbestos from the building.

Preliminary air samples inside the building were clean, but additional air sampling and surface swabs are still being analyzed.
