KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Peyton Manning wasn't swinging clubs, but he was on the golf course Monday at Fox Den Country Club.
The former Vol quarterback was in town to host a tournament benefiting East Tennessee Children's Hospital and the PeyBack Foundation.
"I've always enjoyed playing in the offseason with my teammates, but I think I need to throw some touchdowns in Denver before I start making a lot of birdies and pars," Manning said during a break from meeting with tournament competitors.
The four-time NFL Most Valuable Player is beginning a new chapter in his career.
He was released by the Indianapolis Colts in March and two weeks later signed with the Denver Broncos.
"New players, new plays, no question it's a huge transition '" said Manning.
Manning played fourteen seasons with the Colts, but missed all of 2011 after undergoing multiple neck surgeries.
The former Super Bowl MVP will have plenty of Tennessee company in the Denver locker room this season.
"Myself, (Britton) Colquitt, Robert Ayers and Malik (Jackson). It's the most Tennessee players I've played with a one time since I've been back in college. I do think, and always thought folks in Knoxville have always kept up with their alumni so it's fun to be playing with some former Vols."
Manning will spend part of the week working with University of Tennessee receivers and shooting a new commercial.
Training camp for the 2012 season starts in late July.
