KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A Vols football player found his mother and her boyfriend shot to death Wednesday in their West Knox County apartment. The sheriff's office says it doesn't suspect outside involvement.

Alan Ollis, 50, and Cindy Jo Flanary, 48, of Grove Lake Way, were found dead in their apartment on Wednesday.

Flanary was the mother of Vols defensive lineman Daniel Hood, who formerly played for Knoxville Catholic.

According to the preliminary investigation by the sheriff's office, Hood said his grandmother called and asked him to check on his mother, Cindy Jo Flanary, because she hadn't been able to get in touch with her for several days.

Hood said he went to his mother's apartment and saw her vehicle in the parking lot. He couldn't get an answer when he knocked on the door so he forced his way into the apartment.

He found the victims on the bathroom floor and called 911. Rural/Metro pronounced both victims dead at the scene.

A neighbor, Connie O'Connor, lived near the couple for two years and knew them well. Although she doesn't know Daniel Hood well, she says his mother cared greatly for him.

"Cindy loved him with all her heart," O'Connor said. "She did everything for him."

O'Connor says the couple had financial troubles, and Ollis suffered from Parkinsons disease. "(He) had been out of work for two years. Cindy had been doing it all," she said.

The preliminary investigation found no signs that a third party is involved. The investigation is ongoing.
