Woman strikes utility pole exposing live electrical wires

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A Thursday afternoon wreck resulted in an emergency call to Knoxville Utility Board personnel.

An official from the Knoxville Police Department says a woman was driving westbound on Washington Pike near Glendale Road when she lost control of her SUV and struck a utility pole.

Live electrical lines were knocked down as a result of the crash. The woman was pinned in her vehicle, but had to wait until KUB responded trip the breaker, allowing the Knoxville Fire Department to attempt a rescue.

KFD was successful in cutting the woman out of her SUV, a KPD release states.

The woman was transferred to the University of Tennessee Medical Hospital by ambulance. The identity of the woman and the extent of her injuries are not known at this time.

There were no other passengers in the vehicle, and she was wearing a safety restraint at the time of the crash.
